Asian Development Association Bury (ADAB)

Over the five years of our partnership, the unique working relationship between the Asian Development Association, Bury (ADAB) and the WEA has made a valuable contribution to the empowerment of local people through community based adult education. Together we have enhanced student’s personal development and developed their confidence.

Central to this success is the role learners play in identifying the need for particular classes through regular consultation with ADAB and community members.

Classes offered include:

  • Wedding Planning
  • Fashion & Design
  • Healthy Cooking & Weight Management
  • Domestic Violence Support
  • Literacy
  • Confidence Building
  • Counselling Skills.

Some of the courses have nationally recognised qualifications.

WEA courses are designed to respond to learners interests and are delivered at times most convenient for them. Since WEA classes started at ADAB, there have been many success stories of students acquiring new skills and qualifications and going onto further training and employment.

Continuing positive feedback from students reflects a range of factors including course content and delivery, tutors and the positive atmosphere at the ADAB centre.

"Courses like this are very informative and empowering for women and we would like more courses like this that raise our self awareness so that we can achieve our full potential." Learner on a Domestic Violence Support course.

As it goes from strength to strength, the WEA is committed to consolidating and developing the partnership with ADAB. We will continue to develop and offer innovative courses, respond to the interests and needs of the local community and celebrate the success of learners.
