The provision in this curriculum area is within the Second Chance to Learn strand, with a strong focus on providing first steps into learning, relevant skills and progression opportunities to enhance life chances.
Skills for Life represents 89% of this area, other elements including study skills courses, courses for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities and other ‘second chance’ courses for adults in particular target groups - such as ex-offenders, homeless people, learners recovering from mental illness.
The WEA offers skills for life support to learners in several different ways. We value what learners know and can do and build on this to help them achieve skills and competence in a relaxed and supportive manner.
We offer courses both within the community or in the work place, we deliver embedded courses where literacy or numeracy are integrated into other courses and we support learners who are studying on the other WEA programmes.
